Intriguing Insects: Ants!

Letter B = Bugs!!
We spent this week learning about ants! Piper is so intrigued with the insect world that it was not difficult to get her involved with this theme!
The only thing that didn't work to our advantage was the weather! Rain and lots of it! So our ant experiment and ant farm have been postponed for a later, sunnier date!

But we did glue this ant together and learned all about the different ant parts - head, abdomen, thorax, 6 legs and 2 antennae!

Then we made fingerprint ants (and sang "The Ants Go Marching" over and over again!).

Piper worked on matching these number ants from Confessions of a Homeschooler.

Meanwhile, Taitum matched the ant shape cards (also from COAH). I am constantly amazed at her ability to do these activities!

We also built ants (and other creatures) from play doh!
Like this little fellow!

All of our creatures!

Taitum played along with the play doh, too, but when she got bored, I came up with a different, improvised activity for her!
Play doh, craft sticks and foam beads created a wonderful fine motor skill activity to keep this little one occupied for a bit longer!

Although it was not bug related, Piper had a blast with this animal match up game I found at a yard sale! The real life pictures of the animals was a big hit!

We began a Tiny Tumblers class this week, too! Its the most fun I've ever had at an exercise class!

Their favorite part, of course, was snack time! ;)

That was our week! Next, we're moving on to bees!

Fun week!!!

I remember doing A is for ants. I just love Confessions of a Homeschooler's stuff. We had to deviate this week because we wanted to do P is for Princess instead of pumkins. LOL

Just popping in from Tot school.

I feel silly, I have you on my google reader but I was not following you. Sorry! (I fixed that mistake!) So I love these activities! The playdough ant is adorable, we'll have to do that one this afternoon. I also love the scripture, we were studying butterflies last week, but I couldn't think up a good scripture. (Next time I'll just e-mail you!)

“I am more convinced than ever that even in the midst of the mundane, burdensome, and oftentimes frustrating tasks of life allotted to me as a mother, God wants me to find his joy. He wants every single day of my life to be a celebration of his blessings, whether large or small. He wants me to celebrate life ~ the life He has given me.”
