Plenty of Pinecones!

Our nature studies took us all the way into our backyrad this week!
We went hunting for pinecones and it was Piper who found them!
She was just a wee bit excited!

There were a load of them to be found and we had a great time picking them from the tree!

Piper was determined to get every last one and continued to look for more until it was time to go inside.

Taitum, on the other hand, was not too fond of the feel on the pinecones and stayed clear of the whole project!
Instead she watched from her little perch on the swing set.

So now we have a bag full of small pinecones in need of a purpose!

I'm thinking we may make a few of these cute little pinecone birds next week.

And perhaps a few pinecone bird feeders!

Do you have any other suggestions?
(We have a lot of pinecones!!)

Pine cone skier ornaments are a cute idea for giving to relatives as part of a Christmas package. You add small eyes, a piece of material around the top for the scarf---toothpicks for ski poles and popsicle sticks for the skis. They are real cute done up.
Also scenting them with cinnamon and nutmeg for Christmas smells in the house.
Pine cone wreaths and also pine cone Christmas trees are also neat--you use the styrofoam forms and poke them onto the shapes with toothpicks or crazy glue. Then the girls could decorate them. I have a beautiful pine cone tree which a friend gave to me many years ago--it goes out every year. They sprayed it to keep the ornaments looking shiny---just some suggestions, hope they help.

Mine are all Christmasy of course, but I love the ideas. Hoping to find some pinecones myself so I can do these with the girls.

Thanks for the ideas! I think I will save some of them specifically for Christmas crafts!

I like pine cones. They make me think of winter when I was a little girl.
